Welcome!

Lighting By Others offers architectural photography services specializing in capturing the illumination in a space.

Architects, builders, interior designers and finish carpenters strive hard to create a project that is not only structurally sound, but aesthetically pleasing. As the final link in that chain of craftsman, our architectural photography strives to represent their collaborative efforts. By choosing the correct time of day, the proper camera angle, and paying close attention to detail, our images depict the essence of each architectural creation.

Our background in architectural engineering provides us with a unique perspective and understanding of architecture that other photographers don’t have. We will work with you to provide photos that best illustrate your completed design.

Luck never hurts

Sometimes photographers need a little luck to get the good shots. This happened for me a little over a week ago as I was driving home, the same way, same streets, as I always do. As the sun began to set, I noticed the rich colors of the sun as they began to reflect off of the clouds (which are often hard to come by in Southern California). Lucky for me, I had brought the camera along with me and a tripod was sitting in the back seat of my car, so I pulled over in Sunset Beach, found a parking spot, and jogged out to the waters edge with the equipment. I knew that there would be very little time to really capture the beauty of this sunset so I hurried and began shooting for the next 30 or so minutes. I ended up with wet, sandy jeans and some good shots of the Sunset in Sunset.

Lindstrom Kitchen Lighting Design

My parents finally got around to renovating their kitchen after 20 years of living in their house and as part of the renovation installed new lighting and controls. I used small aperture MR16 downlights from Lucifer Lighting to accent the new cabinetry and complement the modern esthetic. By placing the downlights close the cabinetry the vertical surfaces are revealed dramatically by soft scallops of light. The under cabinet lighting was accomplished using Seagull lighting’s ambiance product mounted under the front edge of the cabinetry which supplies plenty of light on the elegant marble counter tops. Lutron electronic dimmers allow the light levels to be adjusted and also softly fade in and fade out the lighting.
